| Q. What is abstinence? Why should I choose abstinence? |

Choosing abstinence is not just about saying “no” to sex. It is about saying “yes” to the freedoms that come from abstaining from sex as a teenager, including the freedoms to pursue your goals and dreams and to enjoy being a teenager, without the possible consequences of teen sex, such as sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancy. Abstinence is not about repressing sexual feelings, but about being in control of your feelings, your body, and your future. An abstinent lifestyle allows a relationship to grow slowly with communication about boundaries. By setting these boundaries in a relationship, you will protect your well-being, while respecting yourself and your partner’s physical and emotional health as well as his or her goals and dreams. By taking charge of your sexual health now, you will build self-confidence and self-control. For more information about abstinence click here.
