Sexually Transmitted Diseases Print E-mail

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), commonly known as STDs, are among the most common infectious diseases today. Before the Sexual Revolution of the 1960’s, there were little known sexual diseases, known as venereal diseases, the most common being syphilis and gonnorhea. Today there are more than 25 STIs that have been identified, infecting millions of people at staggering rates. Each year, millions of teens in the U.S. acquire damaging and harmful STIs. Economically, billions of dollars are spent every year for medical care to treat these diseases. Current statistics continue to show that the largest number of cases occurs among 15-24-year olds, with HPV having the highest incidence and prevalence rates known.  For more information on STIs, click here.
