Q. Does L.I. Teen Freedom have any research proving it works? |

|
A. Yes. An independent evaluation of the L.I. Teen Freedom program conducted by Drs. Robin Dillon and Dana Weinberg of Evaluation Solutions, LLC between 2007 and 2008 indicated that 68.35% of students reported that abstinence is the only certain way to avoid pregnancy and 63.47% reported that abstinence is the only certain way to avoid STDs, among those students receiving L.I. Teen Freedom versus a comparison group who did not receive the program. The study was funded by the Department of Health and Human Services. Here’s how it worked: 7th, 9th, 10th and 11th grade students in a public middle school and high school in Nassau County received L.I. Teen Freedom abstinence education. Students were administered a detailed survey prior to the study and again at the end of the L.I. Teen Freedom course. Approximately 450 students were able to be tracked and matched at the pre-test and post-test. After the course, there were statistically significant improvements in attitudes toward delaying sexual intercourse among the L.I. Teen Freedom participants.
